Piano Concert: Roger Admiral
Roger Admiral (Camrose, AB) will perform a concert featuring works for piano from western Canada. The program for this concert will include "15 for piano" by Alberta's Howard Bashaw, "La Travesía Intermitente hacía Los Galápagos" by Saskatchewan's Gyula Csapó, and "Pillar of Snails" by Victoria's own Christopher Butterfield.
Recognized for his dedication to contemporary music, Roger has commissioned and premiered many new compositions, positioning him at the forefront of contemporary piano performance in Canada. Roger studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), University of Western Ontario, and the University of Alberta (where he graduated with a Doctor of Music degree.) His main teachers were Virginia Blaha, Peter Smith, Arthur Rowe, and Helmut Brauss. Recent performances include recitals with baritone Nathan Berg at Lincoln Center (New York City), contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux at Symphony Under the Sky (Edmonton), violinist Ilya Kaler at Convocation Hall (Edmonton), violinist Guillaume Tardif at Carnegie Hall (New York City), and the complete piano works of Iannis Xenakis for Vancouver New Music. Currently he coaches contemporary chamber music at the University of Alberta. In March 2014, Roger will return to Victoria to play Ligeti's Piano concerto with the Victoria Symphony.
