Globalist Workshops: Startup Media Skills
SMS Workshop Series: Free trainings for Comm Lead students!
Each workshop is a two-hour, hands on session on a Tuesday from 4-6pm. One week later, during the same time period, students can schedule a one-on-one with the instructor for help with their projects.
The three workshops can be taken individually or as a series.

Whether you're a content strategist, journalist or product manager, writing for the web is increasingly vital. A unique voice will help your press releases, emails even your Facebook posts stand out from the crowd.
This workshop will focus on transparent, personal and accessible writing that can be applied to your professional goals.
Seattle Times columnist and Seattle Globalist creative director Sarah Stuteville will offer exercises and tips for bringing out your voice, with a focus on point-of-view writing that challenges assumptions of the omniscient voice and pushes the boundaries of what non-fiction writing can be.

Great visuals are essential to draw viewers in and tell a story in the digital sphere. But even with quality cameras built right into our phones and tablets, grainy, poorly composed photographs still litter the Internet.
Whether you shoot with your smartphone, tablet, or something fancier, this workshop will teach you vital techniques for making your photography stand out from the crowd.
You'll learn everything from composition, to getting comfortable photographing people, to finding rights-free images online.
Learn from award-winning photojournalist and filmmaker Alex Stonehill, who has reported from more than a dozen countries, directed a feature-length documentary, and is Editor-in-Chief of The Seattle Globalist.
Please bring a digital camera or smartphone to the workshop.

Get control of your online presence! Even if you're using a free WordPress theme, a few tips and tricks can help your site stand out.
Take your WordPress website to the next level. We'll look at WordPress themes and plugins, how to organize your content, and making sure your site looks and works on any device.
This hands-on workshop is perfect for people who have done some work in WordPress but want to expand their understanding of how it works and how to maximize its many great features.
