The Chicago AIDS Quilt Songbook
World AIDS Day 2008, December 1.
Reception begins at 6PM. The Larry Sloan Awards will be presented at 7:30PM. The concert begins at 8PM.
Join us for the premiere of 18 new songs by Chicago based or associated composers and writers written in direct response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This event is presented by Chicago Opera Vanguard at the Court Theatre.
All proceeds from this event go to support Season of Concern, the fundraising arm of Chicagoland's performing arts community.
The first day of December has customarily been designated as "A Day Without Art". However, the concert tradition of The AIDS Quilt Songbook was started in 1992 by the late baritone William Parker, himself a 1993 casualty of AIDS related illness, for which he invited composers to add a "song panel" to a quilt of remembrance commemorating those infected or affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Preceding the event will be a cocktail reception and a presentation of the annual Larry Sloan Awards in the mart Museum of Art.
