THE CAINE MUTINY
(1954) dir Edward Dmytryk w/Bogart, Jose Ferrer, Van Johnson, Fred MacMurray, Robert Francis [124 min; DCP] One of Bogart's best performances has him playing the strict new Captain Queeg of the U.S.S. Caine, a WWII minesweeper. Adapted from Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, THE CAINE MUTINY stars Van Johnson as the stalwart second officer who must, in the end, relieve his apparently unfit captain of duty. The climactic courtroom scene is one of Bogie's best and most unusually contained.
