Bogie's best least known performance comes alongside film noir stalwart Grahame in this tight little package by Nicholas Ray. Bogie plays a boozy screenwriter who may or may not have murdered a hatcheck girl. Grahame plays his sympathetic neighbor who provides a convenient alibi until she begins to suspect that he may actually be guilty.
