Kickstarter School: A Primer on Fan Funding
Kickstarter, the world's largest funding platform for creative projects, has officially launched in Canada. We've all heard the hype, the high profile examples: Veronica Mars, Spike Lee, etc., but over $160M has been pledged to over 11,000 successfully-funded film and video projects, and filmmakers and other artists at all levels are truly doing amazing things with these new models. CIFF 2013 has a wealth of Kickstarter fed product (to name a few: Bending Steel, FUREVER, Feeding Mr. Baldwin), and new programs like InvestYYC emphasize crowdfunding locally-- allowing people to invest in those local filmmakers and artists whose creative projects resonate with them. Co-presented by the Calgary Underground Film Festival, join Elisabeth Holm for Kickstarter School, and get the facts and fiction straight from the source. Elisabeth will present an overview of Kickstarter's history and model as a funding platform for creative projects and a community-building tool for artists, including tips, strategies, and case studies on what makes a successful campaign, and how to use Kickstarter as a tool to grow and engage your audience. Join us for insights into this new funding opportunity for Canadian independent filmmakers and artists of all kind.
