The Grupo Yuri Experience at Senoritas
A unique and romantic event comes to the area as Latin jazz meets world music when Grupo Yuri, a New Jersey based up and coming music ensemble, appears in concert on Saturday, November 1, 2008 with a high octane presentation at the wonderfully intimate upstairs performance venue at the award winning Senoritas Mexican Grill, located at 285 Glenwood Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ, just 3 blocks from Garden State Parkway exit 148. Grupo Yuris passionate and superbly energetic original music has consistently been received with enthusiasm by concert patrons. After several hit jazz venue dates through out north and central New Jersey, including the opening concert of the new South Orange Performing Arts Center and several concert appearances with TEATRO S, the Grupo Yuri experience returns to the area. This special evening at Senoritas begins at 9pm with romantic dancing to the sounds of the classic mambo, bolero and cha-cha of years past accompanied by the available and delicious cuisine and libation selections at this award winning restaurant. At 10pm Grupo Yuri performs in concert an expanded version of their sumptuous original instrumental compositions followed by a classic Latin dance music party till 1am. The groups founder, writer and violinist Yuri Turchyn has had a highly visible career as a featured premier performer. Robert Santelli (Asbury Park Press) wrote Yuris violin style and execution were tantamount to ground-breaking innovations in music. Yuri was a founding member of Kinderhook, which took the tri-state music scene to new horizons. Mr. Turchyn, a seasoned studio session player; recently performed and was interviewed on the Hispanic NBC - Telemundo network. He has also produced, engineered and played on Teatro Sis (the premier Hispanic theater company in NJ) CD releases. The members of Grupo Yuri are also seasoned players from diverse backgrounds. Congero Beny Ramos, a South Orange native, has been an integral player in many salsa groups of the past. Bassist Jim Grant is known for his groove oriented playing. Drummer Al Selert has been a much sought after player in the tri-state area for years. Guitarist Ernie Fortunato is one of the finest jazz players around. Percussionist Stacy Grant has a keenly developed sense of rhythm from his years playing with MZume, a drum oriented samba group. Violinist Yuri Turchyn has synthesized the diversity of these musicians into a fine ensemble; a finality of a long sought musical journey.
