Agata Tuszynska Vera Gran: The Accused
Agata Tuszynska Vera Gran: The Accused-Nov 10th 7:30pm at Suburban Temple Kol-Ami (FREE TO COMMUNITY)
Vera Gran: The Accused is a controversial story of the beautiful, exotic prewar Polish singing star Vera Gran and her piano accompanist Władysław Szpilman, who was made famous by Roman Polanski's Oscar-winning film The Pianist. Gran escaped the Warsaw ghetto and survived, only to be accused of collaborating with the Nazis after the war. She was ultimately found innocent, but the accusations destroyed her career; the war never ended for her. Author Agata Tuszyñska found Gran in Paris, in an apartment, deeply paranoid of persecution. A trust developed and Gran shared her remarkable story. Using Vera Gran's reflections and memories, and archival materials, Agata Tuszyñska has written an explosive, resonant portrait of lives lived during a dark time in history, exploring the larger, more profound question of collaboration, the price of survival, and of the long, treacherous shadow cast in its aftermath.
