Farm to Table Dinner at Blackgate Farm
Do you Love Your Farmer? We do and we want to help our community understand their food from "Farm to Table." Join us for an afternoon and evening experiencing the farm life at two FMO farms and concluding with an elegant dinner in the fields at Blackgate Farm in Vazant, MO., made with local products from FMO vendors.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
2:00 pm We ask that everyone meet us at the FMO Pavilion, right off Republic Rd in Springfield, Mo. A charter bus will take our group to three farms for tours and dinner at the final stop.
3:00 pm Meet and Greet at Springhill Dairy in Mtn. Grove, MO. Lear about cheese-making on a real dairy farm, operated by Duncan and Tara Smith and family. Tour the farm, cheese facility and watch the cows graze in the pastures. The Smith family also operate a You-Pick Pumpkin Patch.
5:30 pm We will head south for our final farm tour and dinner location at Blackgate Farm in Vazant, Mo. The Penner family have raised cattle in the Ozarks for many years and started an organic beef operation, raising Devon cattle, about 5 year ago. You'll always know that Blackgate is grilling at market from the Green Egg smoke and delicious smell. Enjoy a hayride around farm to see the cattle graze in the pastures, historical barns and take your seat at the table for an incredible local meal prepared by Chef Wes Johnson of the NEW Metropolitan Farmer (to open in Farmers Park in Winter 2013), along with other local chefs.
6:50 pm Dinner is served, family style, in the fields at Blackgate. The meal will include products from the three farms toured, as well as other FMO vendors. Local spirits will be served from Mother's Brewery and others.
9:00 pm Party Wrap-Up and bus ride home to Springfield.
