SLITHER (Party at the Parkway)
A slimy, rotten B-movie homage oozing with affection for low-budget horror films, Slither is a tale of creepy crawly little beasts that invade Smalltown, USA. Equally creepy and funny -- if you've got the stomach for this sort of thing. Slither is a wicked good time: it'll make you squirm -- when you're not busting a gut laughing.
About Party at the Parkway: This showing is part of "Party at the Parkway". Party at the Parkway is a patron planned event where we celebrate one of our patrons (or a group of patrons), replete with a cake and singing, and we open it up to the public. So even if you don't know anything about the group, consider coming out to celebrate. The party will start sometime in the 9 o'clock hour, give or take.
Here's what the organizer of this event has to say: "The year was 2010. The date September 29th. It was a hot, humid night in night in Chicago. The kind of night where beads of sweat cling to your arms as you perspire because there's too much moisture in the air for them to escape. Or maybe it was an unusually cold night, with a steady drizzling rain pattering against the windows of the apartment. Who can remember these kinds of details about a first date? Also, it was Chicago. There's a solid chance it was both of those temperatures. You know what they say about the midwest... don't like the weather? Wait 10 minutes!
Anyway, back to the night at hand. I was finishing my first cocktail, a Dark and Stormy, and trying to hit that sweet point of inebriation where you come off as casual and cool without crossing the line into the "Too Drunk to be on a First Date" level. Steve arrived just in time for the second round. Our chemistry and attraction was instantaneous. Some would even call it love at first sight, but not us because we aren't that romantic. No, no, our relationship would progress much more like the relationship between Bill Pardy and Starla Grant, except, well, I wasn't married and Steve would never, ever want to be any kind of law enforcement, and the only mind controlling alien slug we were at risk of being taken over by was the alien slug...of love. But aside from all those differences, our relationship has been pretty much like that movie Slither which we watched on our first date.
We talked and laughed for hours, and Steve finally made his move after I showed him my old high school Academic Quiz Team badges. (By the way, love those Nerd Nites at The New Parkway.) Fast forward a few years ahead, add a couple of jointly owned cats, a cross country road trip in which we didn't want to kill each other after a week of driving, and now here we are!
Our 3 year anniversary is coming up, and we'd love nothing more than to celebrate at our favorite local theater.
