SAVIOURS ARCHONS DEAD GHOSTS AMIGO @ the VOID $10 IN ADVANCE / $12 DAY OF SHOW DOORS: 8 PM / SHOW: 9 PM
SAVIOURS: Formed in 2004, Saviours are the end product of a "vision-quest" by guitarist/vocalist Austin Barber and drummer Scott Batiste. An ipecac reaction to the sorry state of heavy music, they aimed to assemble an epically heavy, crushingly loud band that would reinvigorate their love for excessive volume. The band's home base of Oakland, long since a hotbed for landmark metal and crust bands such as El Dopa, Neurosis, and High on Fire, provided the decay and terror necessary to fuel such an effort. Inspired by '70s doom, NWOBHM, power metal and "˜90s black metal, as well as that which informed West Coast hardcore punk and skate culture (think Black Flag and groups like BL'AST! and Poison Idea), Saviours fortify the positions originally suggested on their debut EP Warship and first album Crucifire with Into Abaddon, its punishing riffage and Barber's venomous lyrics leading the charge. Rounded out by Drunk Horse bassist Cyrus Comiskey and D. Tyler Morris on second guitar, Saviours provoke a violent response to all in metal that does not ring true.
ARCHONS shifted it into gear circa 2004 in San Diego, California. Having risen from the ashes of the Seattle band Sludgeplow, ARCHONS rhythm section features Scott Driscoll on drums and Chad Hartgrave on bass. Jeff Doom rounds out the sound on guitar, coming from such Kansas City bands as the Hearers, Transdimensional Doorway and Erfmen. All originally from the Great Plains, ARCHONS now rock it up and down the West Coast, offering an original, uncompromising Heavy Sound set to a Thunderous Beat. Having recorded their first EP in the hallowed halls of San Diego's Casbah, the band has recorded a session at Merriam Shoals Studios, with Dr. David Moore twisting the knobs. Out now is the re-release of the Merriam Shoals EP (self titled) with extra tunes on Bloated Goat Records, Archons have also recorded a fantastic new album in Los Angeles with Toshi Kasai helping set the controls for the heart of the sun.
DEAD GHOSTS: San Diego band DEAD GHOSTS (not to be confused with the same-named band from Vancouver) includes bassist Troy Oftedal (Cattle Decapitation), second bassist John Reider (Secret Fun Club), singer/guitarist Sal Gallegos (Some Girls, Secret Fun Club), and drummer Sam Strothers (the Narrows). With two bassists, a guitar, and drums, the band makes heavy, slow, grinding doom and ball-tingling bass drones.
AMIGO: Influenced by the lush palms, rural canyons, undulating landscapes, and little cliffs that make up the pseudo desert that is San Diego, Amigo was born. Led by front man Jeff Podeszwik, Amigo is a riff based rock band with heavy hooks, melodic vocals and fuzz driven guitars. Whether it be a tale of tragedy, a practice in prose, an untold story, or a rumor in the school hall, instructions have been given to let you in on these secrets. After all....that's what friends do. Join the cult of Amigo today!.....dudelings. You'll dig if you're into Kyuss, Black Sabbath, QOTSA, Ween, Primus, Fu Manchu and the like.
