ANDREW ALDEN ENSEMBLE PROVIDE LIVE SCORES TO HORROR CLASSICS AT PhilaMOCA

PhilaMOCA is bringing back-to-back nights of classic horror to audiences on Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th as it collaborates with The Andrew Alden Ensemble to present PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925) and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) with accompanying live scores.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is an adaptation of the much-loved novel starring horror great Lon Chaney (THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME) in his career-defining performance. It follows a disfigured pianist who goes to devious lengths to secure the career of the woman he loves.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is the film that not only launched the career of horror icon George Romero (DAWN OF THE DEAD, LAND OF THE DEAD) but also introduced the concept of the zombie to American audiences. Its influence is still being felt to this day in the form of pop culture juggernauts like THE WALKING DEAD (2010) and WORLD WAR Z (2013). NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD tells the story of a group of strangers trying to survive a zombie apocalypse in the Pittsburgh area.

The Andrew Alden Ensemble is an experimental chamber music group that performs textual scores in front of live audiences. Owing its influences to a diverse range of performers that include Philip Glass and Radiohead, the group accompanies each film with an atmospheric soundtrack that incorporates both classical compositions and rock music.
