Interactive Virtual Choral Musicianship Workshop
This 6-week online course is geared for choral singers who want to hone their music understanding and sight-reading ability. These classes will be designed and taught by Voci Artistic Director Mitchell Covington. This intermediate musicianship level course will have 6 weekly sessions that will last 75 minutes with a 5-minute break scheduled. The fall course begins Wednesday, September 30 at 7:30 PM PT and ends on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
Musical terms and concepts will be introduced with visual and audio examples and clear, useful handouts. Every class will also include lots of practice. The class will be interactive, and students will be able to ask questions in real time. Light homework will be assigned each week. Class size will be between 8 and 16 students.
This offering is part of the fall programing by Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble.
The course is open to both Voci singers and non-Voci singers.
To participate in the Intermediate session of the Virtual Choral Musicianship Workshop, you should already know: 1.Note names on the treble staff and on the piano 2.Meaning of white and black keys on the piano 3.Note values including whole-note, -note, -note, 1/8-note, 16th-note. 4.Understand what a dotted note is--what the dot means. 5.Understand accidentals (flat, sharp, natural) and how they work. 6.Understand bar lines, measures and meter. 7.Be able to determine how many beats there are in 1 measure of a given piece of music.
