Nickel and Dimed
Based on a bestselling book by Barbara Ehrenreich, "Nickel and Dimed" is a provocative, lively look at the underside of the American economy. The play focuses on workers who try to subsist on minimum-wage jobs. Barbara, an award-winning journalist, goes undercover to scrub toilets, wait tables, and shelve items in a discount store to see if she can earn a living wage. She learns that the deck is stacked against people who make minimum-wage salaries. They are underpaid for their long, backbreaking hours of work. Written during the dot-com boom, this work is even more powerfully and poignantly relevant today.
