THE BRIDGE Musings From The Village - A Virtual Living Newspaper
An Online Play Creation Workshop
Get ready for a truly experimental and inspiring dramatic experience in which young artists of a variety of talent levels are nurtured in a positive and creative theatre environment. Students are led by working theatre professionals in classes designed to develop imagination, concentration, and confidence with movement and dance, voice, technique, character, theatrical design and appreciation of the theatrical artistic journey, all presented online in a one week collaborative workshop.
Participants will create an original virtual newspaper called THE BRIDGE, based on a living newspaper style using acting tools, scene work, script creation, improvisation and dance/movement while exploring, adapting and working together to create an original performance for virtual public performances on July 18, 2020. This is a special and unique opportunity to work with artists from Brüka Theatre to develop craft, focus and technique.
Open to 20 participants. Sign up by July 3, 2020 for $75. $100 after July 10, 2020.
Camp Schedule: Monday, July 13 - Saturday, July 18, 2020
GENERAL HOURS: 10 am to 4 pm weekdays with adequate breaks. A few early evening opportunities as well. Our Poet In Residence will be an evening presentation from 5:45 PM - 7:00 PM Public Virtual Performances - July 18, 2020.
Schedule Note: Some pop - out, social distancing opportunities may arise as we near the start of the camp. Perhaps a social distancing tennis game with martinis and gambling and a hike to combat the Covid - 19.
4 Internships/Assistants Available for ages 17 20 (Theatrical, Leadership, Technical or Writing experience a plus.)
2 Scholarships Available: Write a 500-word essay including and desire to participate in the Performing Arts Camp, prior experience and limitations.

ABOUT BRÜKA THEATRE In its 27th season in downtown Reno, Brüka has been named Best Theatre Company by The News and Review for over 20 years. Brüka Theatre is a leader in the region, recognized for its productions, artists and theatre for children series since its founding in 1992. Central to Brüka is the commitment to the reinvestigation of contemporary and classic plays and developing new plays within Brükas Artistic Collective, which include winners of the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts Foundation artist grants and 9 local best actor honors. Brüka is a non- equity and not-for-profit theater TCG small professional company that has produced over 100 shows in our downtown Reno location. This is our 10th Annual Brüka Theatre Summer Camp.
Workshop Artists Mary Bennett Core Director/Producer. Improvisation. Acting. Creation. Producing Artistic Director Brüka Theatre. Works as actor, director, producer and Artist in Residence for The Nevada Arts Council and The Sierra Arts Foundation. Bennett has worked as a professional theatre maker for over 25 years. She has adapted fairy tales and created original plays in workshops for and with children and adults for the duration of her theatrical career.
Alexander Biber Movement. Choreography. Acting. Coach. Alex is a recent company member of the Sacramento Ballet, has danced with The Australian National Ballet Company, and has also danced and choreographed with Sierra Nevada Ballet. Alexs work as a teaching artist spans more than a decade with Bruka, schools and dance companies. Most notably, Alex has worked as choreographer/creator on Brükas Buttcracker series and has been seen in numerous Brüka performances. This is a bridge year in Alexs life.
Holly Natwora - Acting . Coach. Holly received her MFA from Columbia University in NYC and has performed in over 60 plays including two summers at Joseph Papps New York Shakespeare Festival with Liev Schreiber and Michael C. Hall. Holly has also appeared in television and film, most notably in Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Since she moved to Reno in 2005, Holly has performed or directed at the Brüka Theatre, Reno Little Theatre, Good Luck Macbeth, and TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada. Holly most recently directed The Crucible at Brüka last season and also teaches at TMCC.
We may have other artists working with students in acting, make-up, costuming, theatrical devices and playwriting. Students will need to have access to a working computer.
