The National Writers Union (UAW Local 1981) is the only labor union representing freelance writers in every genre. With chapters nationally, the NWU works to advance economic and working conditions of writers -- lobbying for legislation, initiating lawsuits, educating writers on their rights, networking, organizing picket lines, publicizing viable alternatives to unfair practices by both the traditional and Internet publishers, and by mobilizing members to fight for their collective self-interest.
