Event
Sheila Kay Adams and Neal Hellman in Concert in Marshall; Sunday, Sept 15, 2:00 - 5:00.
Sheila Kay Adams, heart-felt ballad singer, clawhammer banjo player, unforgettable story-teller, real mountain life woman has learned her tunes and tales from generations of family who passed them down. She will be passing on to her audience a taste of the oral traditions that came over to these sacred old mountains with some of the earliest European settlers, along with family stories that will engage your imagination till you think you're part of the family! You can listen to Sheila on Reverbnation, or listen to past performances on YouTube.
In concert Neal performs many of his original compositions as well as traditional Appalachian, Celtic, European and Early Music. As a performer, "He has the ability to draw the audience into a cohesive body so that the evening becomes a shared experience ... meshing rollicking American tunes and delicate O'Carolan compositions into a delightful set sprinkled liberally with his unique sense of humor and wandering storytelling style," To hear him now, go to https://soundcloud.com/gourdmusic/sets/neal-hellman-mountain/
BridgeBack Studio, (former American Legion), is behind the Post Office in downtown Marshall / up against the RR and River, at the corner of Bridge and Back Streets.
Tickets are $15/$10 for children or low income. Door will open at 1:00. Seating is open - You could come pay, drape a jacket over your seat, and stroll the wee brick and stone town till music begins. I do suggest you BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow,) as most chairs are metal.
There will be 20 minutes of 'Floor Spots' before the concert proper. A floor spot is anyone who'd like to share a song to warm up the audience - it's a British folkie tradition. Sign up when you arrive.
