Breaking Free: Finding Resilience in an Era of Collective Trauma
Lombard Mennonite Peace Center: will present Breaking Free: Finding Resilience in an Era of Collective Trauma in an online format. This 90-minute webinar will explore the issue of trauma in the current context of both the Corvid-19 virus and the public killing of George Floyd. Grounded in Family Systems Theory, the webinar will help participants identify the impact of trauma on themselves and others and discuss strategies to break free from trauma and find resilience. Among the highlights of the webinar will include:
1) The webinar will discuss different types of trauma and show how to recognize trauma in ourselves and others, distinguishing between the enemy-aggression cycle and victim-lethargy cycle. 2) The webinar will discuss how unresolved trauma becomes the source of chronic anxiety within a family system, being passed from one generation to the next in a multi-generational process. 3) The webinar will serve as an entry point for individuals and introduce key resources in the field of the field of trauma. 4) The webinar will help spiritual leaders understand how they can have a significant role in helping others find healing and resilience, through contemplative prayer and meditation.
