Skate Instructors Association: Teaching for Derby
Rat City Roller Girls is excited to announce a one day teaching workshop by the Skate Instructors Association (SkateIA) on October 12th.
Due to The Neutrino's involvement with SkateIA, we've negotiated a condensed version of the SkateIA certification course, which is tailored to focus on the teaching of roller derby technique. In it, you will acquire the tools needed to improve the learning of the skaters you coach.
This workshop covers a complete and effective teaching model, including class handling and how to breakdown skating techniques into building blocks. You will learn via discussion and practice. This class will transform the way that you think about teaching skating!
About the Instructors: Trish Alexander (and Naomi Grigg: The Neutrino)
The head of Skate IA, Trish has been teaching skating technique since 1996. She is internationally recognized for developing teaching techniques and skill breakdown methods which make skating easier to learn. Her strategies are used by hundreds of instructors around the world.
Naomi has been a certified skate instructor since 2002, has risen to the highest international level of certification, trains and examines new and experienced instructors worldwide.
Cost:
The original two day training course results in an international certification and costs $250 per person, however the one-off, condensed, non-certification day is open to all leagues and skaters for just $50.
We believe strongly in the utilization of experts in the skating and derby communities to ensure the most comprehensive training of Rat City skaters. This is not a fundraiser, and all proceeds go direct to SkateIA.
