Madison Historic Neighborhoods Bus Tour: 19th century to Mid-Century.
Visit Madison' s urban neighborhoods from the 1850s to the 1950s, with hosts Anna V. Andrzejewski (UW Professor of Art History and vernacular architecture historian), and Erica Fox Gehrig (architectural historian and Madison Landmarks Commissioner).
See where early Madisonians chose to live and why, and how they migrated from the Isthmus, establishing neighborhoods with the styles and technology of their time.
- Homes from Victorians to Usonians to pre-fabs to 1950s "Parade of Homes" houses.
- Neighborhoods include Third Lake Ridge, Eken Park, Sherman Ave., University Heights, Vilas, Westmorland, Hill Farms
- Walking tour of homes and commercial buildings in the Third Lake Ridge Historic District
- Interior visit to a 1949 Lustron house.
Where: Tour will meet and board the bus at the Hamilton Middle School (enter parking lot from the big curve on Segoe Rd.), and return at the conclusion of the tour.
When: Saturday, September 28, 1:30 - 4:30pm
How much: $40 ($30 for MTHP members)
