As parts of the Middle East and North Africa move from autocratic rule to unrest to crisis and back, what should America's role in the region be? Which interests does America still have there, and which should it continue to protect?
Ambassador Bremer is one of the world's leading experts on crisis management, terrorism and homeland security. His role as Presidential Envoy and head of the Iraq Coalition Authority following the 2003 invasion gave him a unique perspective on the Middle East and the war on terrorism. The resulting book, My Year in Iraq: The Struggle to Build a Future of Hope (2006) was hailed as "fascinating and valuable" by The New York Times. From Sea to Shining Sea: Biking Across America with Wounded Warriors (2011) revealed another facet of his commitment to public service.
A graduate of Yale and Harvard Universities and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, Ambassador Bremer was Chairman of the Bipartisan National Commission on Terrorism from 1999-2000, which produced the only such report to predict a major terrorist attack on American soil, Ambassador to the Netherlands from 1983-1986 and Ambassador at Large for Counter Terrorism from 1986-1989. He is a former Chairman and CEO of Marsh Crisis Consulting and former Managing Director at Kissinger and Associates.
