"One of L.A.'s last gentlemen", according to Wide Angle Lunches' favorite essayist, John Jeremiah Sullivan, Kevin West recently turned his hand from journalism at the hippest of high fashion magazines, W, to pickle pots and sealing wax. His recipe book, Saving the Season: A Cook's Guide to Home Canning, Pickling, and Preserving (2013) reflects West's eclectic background and interests in history, science, art history, and literature.
After 13 years on the staff at W in New York, Paris and, lastly, as its West Coast Editor in Los Angeles, he now runs the blog SavingtheSeason.com, writes about food, culture, and travel, and produces a retail collection of jams and marmalades.
West is from rural Blount County in eastern Tennessee. He attended Deep Springs, an experimental college in the White Mountains of California, and Sewanee: The University of the South.
