The two-time winner of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming returns to our stage, with special collaborator Stephen Kent, master of the didjeridu.
The concert will take place at St. Mark's Lutheran Church and includes a pre-concert talk with the artists at 3:15. Audience members have the chance to mingle with the performers while enjoying light refreshments immediately following the performance. Tickets range from $10-$25, with a discount for seniors, students and advance purchases. Free for children 12 and under. Childcare is available. Ample free parking.
Del Sol's members are violinists Kate Stenberg and Rick Shinozaki, violist Charlton Lee and cellist Kathryn Bates Williams. Since its inception in 1992 at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Quartet has worked its magic performing on prominent concert series worldwide, including the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Symphony Space in New York City, Other Minds Festival of New Music San Francisco, Davos and Hirzenberg Music Festivals Switzerland, Chengdu Festival of Contemporary Music Chengdu China, and the bi-coastal Pacific Rim Festival co-presented by the University of California at Santa Cruz and Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
Del Sol's five commercial CD releases have been universally praised by critics, including Gramophone, which hailed the quartet as "masters of all musical things," and The Strad, which lauded the ensemble's "gloriously opulent, full-throated tone."
Stephen Kent's musical career has taken him across five continents. His musical scores, composed for theatre, circus and dance companies, have received international acclaim and his work as a performer and recording artist has established him in the world music scene, exploring a broad range of playing styles and musical genres. As a Master performer on the didjeridu, he has pioneered its use in contemporary music across the globe.
This is an Osher Inside Out concert and is part of our neo@noe contemporary series, in which we ask artists to play new, unusual or rarely performed repertoire, collaborate with innovative instrumentation, or expose our audience to music inspired by different cultural backgrounds.
Noe Valley Chamber Music has been presenting superb chamber music in San Francisco since 1992. NVCM offers concerts of excellent quality at an affordable price, as well as opportunities for audience participation and socialization. We encourage performers to talk informally about their music from the stage; thus members of our community experience outstanding concert performances in an informal, yet authentic chamber music tradition.
