Oedipus
"Nothing can escape the plague. It fastens on everybody."
Akropolis Performance Lab makes Seneca's version of the Oedipus story a dynamic, new theatrical event. With plague raging outside, spectators gather in the royal house of Thebes for refuge from the terror paralyzing their society. There, they witness King Oedipus who, determined to rid his land of the plague just as he had rid it of the Sphynx in earlier years, consults the Oracle for guidance and learns that the plague will continue until his predecessor's murder is avenged and the murderer banished. Oedipus's quest for knowledge and truth restores prosperity to his people with devastating consequences for himself and his family.
Into Seneca's telling, Akropolis weaves Latin meditations on fate culled from the Carmina Burana Codex and set to luminous, haunting polyphonic music inspired by the traditional songs of Ukraine, Macedonia, and Russia.

Tightly performed dance sequences merge with Latin choral odes compiled by chorus-leader Jennifer Lavy (and performed a cappella); all is laid out with vocal and physical exactitude [...]. This straight-faced bunch puts together a seriously satisfying performance." ~Leah B. Green
Jerry Kraft (seattleactor.com and aislesay.com). http://www.seattleactor.com/news/modu... "The production is filled with imagination and confident expression, all predicated on the power of theatrical immediacy, the confluence of audience and actor in the moment of live performance. The company is talented, balanced, disciplined and passionate, the artistry mature and substantial. I thought this production was thrilling, admirable and utterly engaging." ~Jerry Kraft
