PLEASE NOTE: registration should be accomplished on a desktop, not a phone or tablet, to enable access to the questionnaire.
This workshop teaches individuals how to conduct oral history fieldwork for foodways studies. Oral history and foodways are interdisciplinary practices that enrich scholarship by engaging with multiple disciplines. Life history narratives document and hold space for individuals, and they can tell us much about food history and culture. In this workshop, we will explore best practices for asking questions in an oral history interview. We will work together to develop question maps for oral histories through the lens of foodways scholarship. Well also discuss the visual and aural documentary practices that augment life history narratives for foodways-based oral histories. The workshop is geared towards individuals with some prior knowledge of the field of oral history.
The workshop will be conducted on Zoom. Registered participants will receive a Zoom calling code the day before the event.
