Research shows that even well-intentioned people have unconscious biases that show up in our behavior, leading to impacts we would never desire. The work of unraveling our unconscious bias is life-long, but there are short-term tools we can use right away to help make sure our biases arent in charge, and align our impact with our conscious values. This workshop combines research, community wisdom, and body-based practices to help us interrupt unconscious bias in the short and long term.
One factor that we know makes unconscious bias more likely to impact our understanding and choices is stress and overwhelm - and we all have enough of those these days. In this moment we need to come together to survive a pandemic and confront the inequities that were already there and now seem even more stark. This workshop offers tools and practices to move with integrity and justice in our communities and our relationships.
Accessibility notes: To access this workshop you will need a stable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone. If you're not used to this kind of online environment, don't worry - we'll help you figure it out! We aim to keep the sessions accessible to the widest possible range of people. For example, almost all content and all activity instructions will be presented both verbally and in writing, and all visual content will be described. If you need simultaneous captions for the discussions, let us know in advance and we can make it happen. If you have any other access needs that we haven't covered here, please contact us so we can figure it out together: davey@thinkagaintraining.com, 845-417-6518.
The sliding-scale registration fee operates on the "honor system," to keep the workshop accessible to people with a range of means. We trust you to select the price category that's fair for you.
About the facilitators:
Bruin Christopher Runyan is a healer, organizer and educator whose work lies in uniting our liberatory visions and kinesthetic practices. Bruins private practice, Wise Body, holds individuals and couples in a politicized, trauma-informed, anti-pathology, body-based container designed to affirm the brilliant ways his clients have survived and to build them tools to align their practice with their deepest longings. Bruin teaches online courses through Wise Body to develop core competencies around recovering from triggers, principled conflict, centered accountability and more. Bruin also facilitates group mediation and transformative justice processes both for individuals and organizations. Before private practice work, Bruin spent over a decade as a paid organizer, mentoring and supporting young people in racial, economic, gender and disability justice campaigns in their schools and communities. Bruin has a B.A. in Community Studies from Earlham College and has studied with Embodiment International, Generative Somatics, Upledger Institute and Turtle Tank.
Davey Shlasko, managing consultant of Think Again Training & Consulting, is an educator, author and consultant whose passion is facilitating adult learning about, and in the context of, social justice movements.
