Minnesota-born Jon Vezner began his musical journey as lead singer and bassist in high school. From there, he earned a BA degree in music education and theory. But his straight-to-the heart gift of songwriting and a passion for performing led him, in the '80s, to Nashville, which remains his base today. A tunesmith of rare sensitivity, Jon weaves his own feelings with the lives of people he has known to fill the world of music with universal themes that deeply touch his listeners' emotions. He was honored with a Grammy for "Best Country Song" in 1990 for Where've You Been, the true story of his grandparents, co-written with Don Henry. Kathy Mattea's recording of the song was recognized as "Song of the Year" by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Another "labor of love" is Jon's producing CD projects, which have earned him a growing list of production credits with artists such as Danny O'Keefe, Victoria Shaw and legendary singer, Patti page. Martina McBride, Janis Ian, John Mellencamp, Faith Hill, and other greats in the business have dipped deep into Jon's catalogue of songs to delight listeners with their own distinctive interpretations of his work. But arguably the finest interpreter of his songs is Jon himself. Jon was with WSSS as part of the December Songs program in 2012 and we are delighted to welcome him back as a solo artist.
