PETER MULVEY in concert
Unitarian Church - North
Mequon, WI
Share this event:

Starting his musical career while at Marquette University, Milwaukee-based folk singer- songwriter, Peter Mulvey honed his performing skills early on in Ireland and in the Boston city subway system.  But unlike that legendary man who rides forever 'neath the streets of Boston, Peter has returned, time and again, to concert venues around America, gathering fans and admirers of his warmly wry songwriting, soulful bass voice, spellbinding guitar, and poet's sense of lyricism and imagery.  If Peter exudes talent (no doubt about it!), it is a talent that defies "pigeonholing."  In his album, "The Good Stuff," for example, he brings the soul of a singer and a light touch to a sequence in which a bluesy take on the Ellington classic, "Mood Indigo" is sandwiched between Tom Waits' obscure "Green Grass" and "a charmingly haphazard" rendition of Jolie Holland's "Old fashioned Morphine."  "They're from different eras," Peter explains, "but to my ear they're the same, in that they're always trying to write a timeless song."  Perhaps that eclectic, iconoclastic, yet universal sense of what "works" accounts for such critical acclaim as that from the Boston Herald, "At his best, Mulvey's like some Tin Pan Alley wit gone beatnik," the Irish Times' "Peter Mulvey is consistently the most original and dynamic of the US singer-songwriters ...a joy to see;" and the Boston Globe's, "His voice feels like fine old leather, and his guitar sounds like it's on steroids...Peter Mulvey is all substance, which is his style.experience that resonates... "Mike Meyer, KRVM-fm, Oregon Public Broadcasting
