Pixie and the Grocer by Thistle Theatre
Hans Christian Andersen's THE PIXIE AND THE GROCER In this Hans Christian Andersen story, a Pixie lives comfortably with a greedy Grocer and his wife. One day he observes a poor Poet give up food in exchange for an old book. The incredulous Pixie peeks into the Poet's room and sees the beauty and excitement of poetry dance before his eyes! Now he faces a dilemma...should he switch his services from the rich Grocer to the poor Poet and live a less comfortable life?
The production features original songs written by Sue Ennis and music score by Michael Flint. Thistle Theatre specializes in tabletop Bunraku-style of puppetry, an ancient Japanese art form. Although the style has been modified for modern audiences and performers, the basic idea remains the same: puppeteers, who dress entirely in black to symbolize their invisibility, operate the puppets. Shadow puppets bring the poetry to life.
