About the panel discussion:

This is the second in a series of informal Zoom conversations about how artists and arts administrators are learning to grapple with public art, social practice, and performance in the context of digital space and real-life limitations. Featuring NWFF Executive Director Vivian Hua in conversation with Betsey Brock of On the Boards and artist Rachel Kessler about their Going the (Social) Distance Project!

About Betsey & Rachel's project GOING THE (SOCIAL) DISTANCE:

Going the Social Distance 1

A mostly-safe performance* for these times, by Betsey Brock,
Performed by Rachel Kessler and Betsey Brock

We live in strange times. And things are pretty dark right now.
Going the Social Distance (GtSD) is a series of performances, intended to bring casual joy to its intended viewers, surprise or delight to accidental viewers, and endorphins to its performers.

GtSD is designed, very specifically for the unique time and place we are living in right now. The place you are in right now, and the place you are likely to be in during this performance.

We are making lemonade from lemons.
Were remembering and celebrating a happier and less burdened time, and trying to find some light in all this new heaviness.

For this first GtSD, we are asking for submissions from Capitol Hill, Central District, Madrona, and Leschi. If you like in one of these neighborhoods, proceed.

Please know, the artists will never share your personal information, or steal your stuff.

For Going the Social Distance 1,

We ask for you to submit your address, your name, and your favorite song.
We will then create a map, and a corresponding playlist of favorite songs.
We will send you a note and let you know, roughly, what time, we will be riding bikes past your house, playing your favorite song as loud as our Bluetooth Speakers will allow us to do.
Maybe well shout your name.
Maybe well wave a flag with your name on it.
Well certainly wear something like costumes.

If you like what were doing, consider making a donation to On the Boards or Wa Na Wari, the arts organizations where we work  and where futures for art and performance are uncertain in these strange days.

Stay safe, stay 6 feet away, stay cool.

We love you,

Betsey and Rachel

*We will wear helmets.
