Keeping Our Kids Safe Professional Development Conference
The Safe Communities Task Force invites you to the Keeping Our Kids Safe Professional Development Conference on Friday, October 11th from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at Clark College.
Featuring Keynote Speaker Fabian Debora: A former gang member and drug addict, Fabian Debora is now an artist and substance abuse counselor at Homeboy Industries, a Los Angeles-based program serving former gang members. Mr. Debora works to create positive change in people and communities, communicating his personal experiences through art.
A full slate of breakout sessions are scheduled throughout the day on a variety of topics related to youth violence including gangs, suicide, substance abuse, dating violence, mental health, and sexual exploitation.
Conference schedule: 7:30 - Registration
8:00 - Keynote address with Fabian Debora; Youth Mental Health First Aid begins (full-day course)
9:30 - Breakout sessions include Gang Trends, Dating Violence & Sexual Harassment 101, and Adverse Childhood Experiences and Resiliency
10:40 - Breakout sessions include Gang Identifiers, Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking 101, and Youth Suicide Prevention
11:40 - Lunch
12:40 - Breakout sessions include Engaging Gang Youth, Dating Violence & Sexual Harassment 201, and Substance Abuse Prevention
1:50 - Breakout sessions include Youth Gangs Panel Discussion, Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking 201, and Motivational Interviewing
