Finding Your Voice: Writing Workshop led by Mary Ann Henry
FINDING YOUR VOICE: AN ONLINE WORKSHOP FOR EMERGING WRITERS OF FICTION AND CREATIVE NONFICTION April 18, 2020, 1:00 TO 5:00 PM
"Mary Ann Henry is a natural born teacher. Not all writers can teach writing; Mary Ann has the ability to go outside of her own creative perspective and understand her students particular needs. Her greatest gift is her capacity to care about their writing as much as her own."--Marjory Wentworth, South Carolina Poet Laureate
Sometimes the biggest hurdle emerging writers have to overcome is ourselves. Learning to trust your own voice--and recognizing that you do have one--is the first step in the writing process. If you've been resisting the call to write, this workshop is for you. In a supportive environment, you will explore who you are as a writer, whats been holding you back, and how to move forward. It's a hands-on opportunity to write, to share your writing, and to receive feedback. You may find that, by connecting with your authentic self and with a little guidance from your Muse, your own unique voice will be heard, loud and clear.
To be held as a video meeting through Zoom, this beginners writing workshop is presented in partnership with the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center. Course materials will be provided beforehand as email attachments. Limited to 15 participants. Please register in advance by Thursday, April 16.
ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR Mary Ann Henry is the author of the award-winning short-story collection, Ladies in Low Places, which Kirkus Review described as "a healthy dose of Southern humor and style, turning the idea of Southern Womanhood on its head." Her story collection was awarded the First Place Category for Women's Fiction/ Short Story Collections from Chanticleer Reviews, a Best Book of 2015 from Blue Ink Review, and was a 2016 featured selection of the Pulpwood Queens, the largest book club in the U.S.
Mary Ann is from Charleston, West Virginia, but now lives in the Lowcountry of South Carolina where she writes southern literary fiction. She enjoys solo and adventure travel: wandered Ireland with a backpack in 2016, hiked Scotland's West Highland Mountains and trekked the Himalayas in 2017. Mary Ann teaches several writing workshops each spring and won national awards for teaching Creative Writing five years in a row from the National Alliance for Artists and Writers. She recently completed her first novel and is at work on another. Learn more at www.maryannhenry.com.
