Zen Poets and the Three Truths
In this workshop we will read some of the most beloved Zen poets of 17th19th century Japan, including Basho, Issa, Rengetsu and Ryokan. We'll look at their verse as well as prose-and-haiku writings such as Basho's "Narrow Road to the Interior" and Issa's "The Spring of My Life." We will examine how these poets expressed the Three Truths of impermanence, suffering, and interconnection. We will read poems aloud together as well as write some of our own.
