Unheard Of! A Celebration of Endangered Global Literatures -- Part 1: INDONESIA
As it stands, the majority of the world's languages are in threat of disappearing within this century. Already, countless art forms and other elements of linguistic knowledge have gone to the grave with the last of their practitioners. Sitting in one of the global centers of power and infuence as well as immigration from all areas of the world, we have the unique opportunity to put these cultures and languages in the spotlight.
This series will present oral and written literatures from historically marginalized, minoritized and endangered languages that are still largely unfamiliar to wider audiences.
Including a multimedia introduction to the peoples and languages presented, live readings of poetry and oral literature both traditional and modern by native speakers in these languages, and simultaneous projections of texts and translations.
Presented by the Endangered Language Alliance in conjunction with Bowery Arts and Science.
