An Evening with David Scott (The Pearlfishers) and friends
We're delighted to be hosting an evening with David Scott, the leading light behind The Pearlfishers and a member of the legendary BMX Bandits.
David Scott has been songwriter and producer of one of Scotland's most unique and enduring musical collectives, The Pearlfishers, since 1991. After a short tour of Japan in 2006 the band started recording their seventh album, Up With The Larks which was released in October 2007 to critical acclaim including Sunday Times Album Of The Week, The Sunday Mail Best Scottish Album Of 2007 award and a four star Word Magazine review / cover mount CD appearance. David celebrated the release with a 19-date European tour in the company of Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake (co-producer of UWTL). David has co-written songs with Blake, Boo Hewerdine and Duglas T Stewart among others and has also contributed songs to the BBC's kids TV show Balamory.
David's work as arranger and record producer has included albums and sessions with artists as diverse as Ricky Ross, Bill Wells & Isobel Campbell, Alex Chilton, Evie Sands, Chip Taylor and seminal indie-pop legends BMX Bandits, of whom he is also a peripatetic songwriting and performing member. With fellow Bandit Duglas T Stewart he was curator, producer and performer of the highly regarded Brian Wilson tribute Caroline Now!
Scott has penned liner notes for albums by Burt Bacharach, Dusty Springfield and Astrud Gilberto. He is also writer and presenter of BBC Radio Scotland's Classic Scottish Albums (now in production for a sixth season), Waxing Lyrical and Silverscreen Beats features. Since 2006 David has been lecturing at University of The West of Scotland specializing in Songwriting, Popular Music History, Community Music and Music Creative Projects and developing the unique MA: Songwriting & Performance due for delivery September 2012. David practices advocacy for music and performing artists with board membership of Burnsong and the steering group for the Creative Scotland Music Sector Review
His most recent music release is Turn Like The World Does, a beautiful collaborative project with alt-country chanteuse Amy Allison (My Dark Star 2012) while sessions for the new Pearlfishers album commenced in April 2012. The album is due for release in early 2014.
Rickenbacker jangle, rococo ambition, melodic sophistication, vocal virtuosity (Mojo)The Pearlfishers' David Scott is something else again. He's a songwriter who can actually write songs that are as good as McCartney's, as amazing as Wilson's. Not the late-period leftovers the good stuff (The Sunday Times) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
