Georgia Woodwind Quintet in Concert
The Georgia Woodwind Quintet is a resident faculty chamber ensemble at the University of Georgia. Founded in the middle of the past century, the quintet has gained a national reputation as an ensemble of high quality musicianship, innovative programming, and audience engagement. The quintet has sponsored seven Symposia for New Woodwind Quintet Music, and also recorded a CD of winning compositions from these symposia. Available on the Albany label, the CD is entitled "Twigs."
The GWQ has performed in the United States and Europe at numerous conferences and festivals, including MENC, the International Double Reed Society, GMTA, and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors.
Members of the GWQ include Angela Jones-Reus, flute; Reid Messich, oboe; D. Ray McClellan, clarinet; Amy Marinello, bassoon, and Jean Martin-Williams, horn. Each of these musicians have distinguished themselves as performers and teachers.
Selections will include music from Gyorgy Ligeti, Percy Grainger, and Theodor Blumer.
The concert will be held at the Griffin Auditorium on East Taylor Street in Griffin, GA beginning at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20 and all children under the age of 18 are admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. All seating is "open" with no reserved seating.
