First Ladies in African American History
The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum celebrates annually "First Ladies in African American History." In addition, the museum recognizes a Winnie Foster Lifetime Achievement Honoree.
"First Ladies in African American History" are "first" in their respective roles and have established history as an African American female.
Winnie Foster Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree is a female (not of color), who has helped to advance the mission and goals of the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in an extraordinary manner.
This year's First Ladies are: Dean Michele Alexandre, Kimberly Brown-Williams, Deborah Figgs Saunders, Kimberly G. Jackson, Esq. and Erin Savage.
The 2020 "Winnie Foster Lifetime Achievement Honoree" is Melissa Sexias.
