Langtoun Jazz Festival 2020 Concert 9 Sue McHugh Quartet
Sue McHugh and her fine band of Scottish musicians bring The Peggy Lee songbook to the festival. Featuring Sue on vocals, Jim Clelland on piano, Jimmy Taylor on bass and Ken Mathieson on drums it will be a programme of songs written and recorded by Peggy Lee, a fitting tribute in Peggys centennial year The main focus is on the music a mixture of sexy latin songs, great swing numbers and heart wrenching ballads to illustrate the life of a remarkable performer and woman.
Peggy Lee (real name Norma Deloris Egstrom) was born in May 1920 and was an American jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, composer, and actress, over a career spanning six decades. From her beginning as a vocalist on local radio to singing with Benny Goodman's big band, Peggy created a sophisticated persona, writing music for films, acting, and recording conceptual record albums combining poetry and music.
