Biodun Kuti and Friends at The Living Room at 35 East
As far as musicianship goes, Nigerian born guitarist Biodun Kuti is the real deal. When Paul Simon's Camaroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini died before Simon's "farewell tour," a feeding frenzy ensued to fill the lead guitar chair. Biodun was highly recommended by several of Simon's band mates after they witnessed his superb musicianship several years prior to the worldwide audition. Biodun easily won the guitar chair and continues to tour with Paul Simon.
Schooled the in West African Yoruba music tradition by his father and his father's father, along with cousins Fela and Femi Kuti, Biodun picked up jazz, R&B, blues, rock, funk, gospel and just about every other music form along the way. Biodun Kuti is the Jimi Hendrix of Nigeria; that is: like Jimi, Biodun is a true original.
Biodun will be accompanied by his brother, bassist Kayode Kuti, and guitarist Jon Dichter.
