Guided Historic Building & Tunnel Tour
Tours will accommodate 15 people maximum and be held on:
***IMPORTANT - READ THIS: These tours require guests to be physically capable to climb up and down steep stairs and walk through low-clearance areas. Significant walking (about 1 mile) will be required and refunds will not be permitted if you are unable to keep pace with the tour. The tour group will be led outdoors for the majority of the duration so please wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Each participant must sign a waiver, and a parent or legal guardian MUST accompany and sign the waiver for each child under 18 years of age. (no friends' kids.) Photo IDs required. Sorry, NO children under age 12 admitted. Cameras and monopods will be allowed, however any other audio/visual equipment is NOT permitted.***
The tours will guide participants through the original unrenovated buildings of the former Traverse City State Hospital which has sat vacant since the State closed the doors almost 25 years ago. Due to changing construction schedules, the historic buildings viewed may change from tour to tour. In addition, guests will be guided through underground utility tunnels, originally used to connect and serve buildings across the original State Hospital campus.
The tour ends in the restored Mercato portion of Building 50 where shops, tasting rooms and eateries are now open seven days a week.
Please allow 90 minutes for the tour, with photo opportunities throughout the duration. In addition you'll receive an exclusive tour discount card to Village shops & dining!
