CONNECT - movement series with Andrea Cerniglia
Meets alternate Mons/Weds: March 16, 25, 30 and April 6, 15, 20. $60 all 6 practices (strongly encouraged); $11 drop in.
Andrea's movement practice draws from her experiences and expertise in Laban Movement Analysis and the work we focus on together is centered on the organization of the body, breath, and accessing optimal efficiency in action and expressivity.
Movement exercises reference the Bartenieff Fundamentals and motivate the group to integrate full-body connectivity. Our sessions build from the ground up to activate and reinvigorate the Fundamental Patterns of Total Body Connectivity (breath, core-distal, head-tail, upper-lower, body-half, and cross-lateral). After developing a relationship with these patterns, focus is placed on technical, improvisational, and performative elements providing a diverse experience while still placing an emphasis on activating each part of the body and the necessary movement elements that prepare us for vigorous movement. Once we have built a critical mass of investigation and activation: we move into athletic, detail-oriented phrase designed to challenge the mover to occupy space, while exploring elements of time, weight, flow, and shape.
We will experience a series of phrases that requires athletic prowess, endurance, and allows for creative experimentation in attack, phrasing and transition. Phrase work will return, adapt, and develop from week to week to build a consistent flow of sequences that we may draw from in our practice.
