Old School Kung Fu Double Feature -- presented by Portland's Kung Fu Theater
Portland's Kung Fu Theater presents an
Old School Kung Fu Double Feature!

Friday, October 4: 8pm

Portland's Kung Fu Theater visits the Grand Illusion to present an Old School Kung Fu Double Feature!  Rare 35mm prints of two of the greatest kung fu films of all time.  Kung Fu Theater organizer Dan Halsted will be on hand to introduce both films.

SEVEN GRANDMASTERS
Joseph Kuo / 1977, Taiwan / 94min / 35mm

A kung fu teacher sets out to prove he is the greatest fighter by finding and defeating the 7 Grandmasters. One by one, he fights their wide variety of animal styles (tiger, leopard, mantis, monkey, etc.) He also puts a young student through elaborate training, and is followed by a mysterious villain in a weird hat. Let's be honest though, how important is the plot when a jaw-dropping kung fu fight breaks out every few minutes? Featuring multiple silver-haired villains with huge sideburns and maniacal laughter, plus the best monkey-style kung fu fight ever put on film.  Directed by the great Joseph Kuo.

THE VICTIM (aka LIGHTNING KUNG FU)
Sammo Hung Kam-Bo / 1980, Hong Kong / 100min / 35mm

A martial arts expert (Leung Kar Yan) and his wife are on the run from his ruthless step brother.  Sammo Hung co-stars as a kung fu fighter who is trying to find a new master by fighting everyone he comes across to see who can best him.  The plots and multiple villains converge when Leung Kar Yan goes on an absolute rampage in some of the greatest kung fu fight scenes ever committed to film.  The fight choreography in this film is by martial arts legend Sammo Hung, when he was first hitting the peak of his career.
