Event
Workshop for Scottish Music
Held in the home of Marcie VanCleave. Exact address given at time of reservation.
For fiddlers and other melody players (whistle, cello, mandolin). All abilities welcome (a modicum of basic skills is suggested).
Jamie will start by teaching three or four Scottish tunes (jig, hornpipe, reel, strathspey) with tips on how to learn new tunes quickly and how to increase tempo and fluency. Then, using these tunes as a platform, Jamie will go on to examining nuances of rhythm, ornamentation, bowing patterns, phrasing, and appropriate tempi that convey an authentic traditional Scottish style. Class will be taught by ear, with sheet music given out after class. Recording devices welcome.
After the workshop we will have an all-welcome potluck. Please brign a beverage of your choice and, if you wish, a food item to share. The hostess will provide a big pot of soup, bread, and some various dessert options.
A concert will commence at 7:30 PM. Reservations should be made separately at this link: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4541270
An open tune playing session will follow the concert at 9:15.
