Yiddish Broadway Fiddler on the Roof at ChappPAC
Join us for a special evening with the cast of the Broadway show Fiddler on the Roof, as they sing, dance and explain how a limited run at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, turned into an 18-month adventure, moving uptown to Stage 42. Fiddler on the Roof, or A Fidler afn Dakh, is based on a series of stories written by Sholem Aleichem in Yiddish. Life in this little Jewish settlement named Anatevka, in Imperial Russia, would have had its community speaking in Yiddish, which is what made this revival so special.
A New York Times Critics Pick, Fiddler, offers a kind of authenticity no other American Fiddler ever has (The New York Times). Harold Prince, the legendary and original producer of Fiddler in 1965 said, If you have ever seen Fiddler before, you must see this production because it will make you feel you are seeing Fiddler for the first time.
With direction by Oscar and Tony Award-winner Joel Grey, this production has been heralded as a richer and deeper interpretation by The Wall Street Journal, a mitzvah by Time Out New York, and AM New York gave it four stars.
