CLAIRE LYNCH and JIM HURST at NEXT STAGE
PUTNEY Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of Americana, folk and bluegrass music by Claire Lynch and Jim Hurst at Next Stage on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 pm. The pair of award-winning musicians perform solo and as a duo.
Long recognized as a creative force in acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer who has continually pushed the boundaries of the bluegrass genre. Over her career, she has earned three GRAMMY nominations, eight International Bluegrass Music Association awards and the prestigious United States Artists Walker Fellowship. The USA Fellows represent the most innovative and influential artists in their fields - including cutting-edge thinkers and traditional practitioners from the fields of architecture and design, crafts and traditional arts, dance, literature, media, music, theater arts and visual arts. Dolly Parton credits Claire with "one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today." At age 12, Claire moved from Kingston, New York to Huntsville, Alabama, where she began her education in country music and got caught up in the bluegrass revival of the 1970's. Blazing her own trail when there were few role models for young women in the genre, Claire led the Front Porch String Band before forming her own Claire Lynch Band in 2005. Along the way, she became a much-sought-after session vocalist, gracing the recordings of the likes of Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Ralph Stanley, Donna the Buffalo,The Infamous Stringdusters, Jonathan Edwards and Jesse Winchester. Equally gifted as a writer, her songs have been recorded by The Seldom Scene, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea and many others. Steeped in bluegrass and country music, Jim Hurst embraces those genres, but goes beyond their musical boundaries to create music both complex and sublime. International Bluegrass Music Associations "Guitar Player of the Year" in 2001 and 2002, Jim is known for his diverse, deft acoustic guitar work and rich, expressive voice. As a solo performer since 2010, he has toured throughout North America and Europe and recorded seven CDs that showcase his unique picking style and mastery of bluegrass guitar. He is also an experienced instructor and session musician.
