Rodney Mashia and Angelikah Fahray - Sam Cooke Tribute
Angelikah Fahray is a singer and songwriter, born and raised in Portland, Maine. In only a year of performing shes quickly earning a reputation for quieting a room with her vocal style, rooted in neo soul music, that is both stunning and serpentine. She and her resident multi instrumentalist Billy Giordano (Eastern Puma Project, Living Daylight) met while playing open mics around town. They began writing and performing together last winter and discovered that his love for synths, vintage gear and guitar tone is helping to build a platform for Angelikahs dart-to-the-heart prowess.
Born in New Orleans, raised in rural Louisiana and now based in Portland, Maine, Rodney Mashia has been touching hearts and making folks smile for decades with his music. He has entertained at many venues in New England with his soulful vocal interpretations, guitar and flute. From folk to jazz to soul to pop to his evocative original compositions, Rodney's life experiences have spanned the black and white American political and music cultures of the past six decades, all contributing to his unique songwriting and musical style, which he calls Acoustic Soul - Music by and from the Heart.
Rodney came of age listening to r&b artists like Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson, Ray Charles, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, to name only a few. But from an early age, he was particularly entranced by the music of Sam Cooke, often referred to as The Man Who Invented Soul. From Sams beginning as a teenager as the lead singer for the Chicago based Soul Stirrers (the most popular gospel quartet of the era), to his controversial conversion to secular music, to his string of thirty Top 40 hits between 1957 and 1964, to his tragic and controversial death in 1964 at age 33, Sam Cookes music was the soundtrack of Rodneys early life.
For his Cadenza debut, which he describes as a lifelong dream come true, Rodney will be performing many of Sams major hits, including You Send Me, Cupid, Chain Gang, Wonderful World, Another Saturday Night, Twistin the Night Away and the seminal civil rights anthem A Change Is Gonna Come. Come help him share his dream...
Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.
