Rustic Overtones
As it prepares to release its 9th CD this fall, "Let's Start a Cult 2 a follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed "Let's Start a Cult" Rustic Overtones has been busy writing new arrangements with strings for songs from its extensive back catalog for the 4-piece string section that will accompany the band in November for a special orchestral performance in our magnificent Performance Hall.
After 20 years as the highest-grossing band Maine has ever produced, you might think that Rustic Overtones had nothing left to accomplish. If so, you'd be wrong. This powerhouse 7-piece band, which formed when its founding members were still attending Gorham High School in the early 90's, still has plenty of gas in the tank as one CD release after the next tops the Maine CD sales charts. To this day, the band's 2007 release "Light at the End" released as Rustic Overtones reunited after a 6-year break-up holds the record for the most sales in a single day of any CD ever sold at the Maine-based Bull Moose Music chain.
As a measure of how respected a songwriter Dave Gutter has become, the new album "Made Up Mind" by the Tedeschi Trucks Band fronted by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, whose father Butch Trucks is the drummer for the Allman Brothers features a couple of songs that Gutter wrote especially for them: "Sweet and Low" and "Calling Out to You." For this very special show in the Franco Center's Performance Hall, a four-piece string section will add depth and elegance to singer, guitarist and principal songwriter Dave Gutter's compositions that span the last two decades. This show has the potential to be highlight of the Franco Center's entire 2013-14 season, so get your tickets early.
**In recognition of the proximity of this show to Thanksgiving, Rustic Overtones will be raising money for the Good Shepherd Food Bank by signing CDs and merchandise before the show downstairs in the Heritage Hall (the BAR, y'all!) starting around 7:00 pm. The proceeds from these sales will be going directly to Good Shepherd Food Bank, where $1 is enough to provide a meal for 4 people. We like to support this and other good causes here in Maine, we hope you'll help us do that. Please visit Good Shepherd's website to learn more about what you can do to help. ttp://gsfb.org/hunger/faq/**
