Beacon Prison Rides + Beacon Prison Books Benefit
The Howland Cultural Center, Beacon's unparalleled arts, cultural and entertainment venue, now celebrating its 40th Anniversary in enriching the cultural and social life of Beacon and the Hudson Valley, is pleased to host an evening benefiting the Beacon Prison Rides + Beacon Prison Books Projects, presented by Binnacle Books and featuring unique, collaborative performances from the A/Ydancers, Nat Baldwin and M. Geddes Gengras.
The Beacon Rides Project is a volunteer group that provides free rides to people visiting incarcerated loved ones. Rides are offered from the Beacon Metro North Railroad Station to various prisons within an approximately half-hour drive, and back. The project provides an alternative to considerably more taxing options, whether for-profit private van companies or taxis, which can be prohibitively expensive and physically demanding. Since 2017, the Beacon Prison Rides Project has provided nearly 800 rides to over 150 different people.
Since late 2019, the Beacon Prison Books Project has sought to connect incarcerated folks in the Hudson Valley with particular book titles, at their request, via sponsorship from patrons of Binnacle Books in Beacon.
Tickets in advance: $10 at natbaldwin.bpt.me Tickets at the door: $15
