TELE-TERROR FEST 2013: 13 TELEVISION TERRORS FROM THE 1970s!
FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND FILM FESTIVAL DEDICATED TO MADE-FOR-TELEVISION HORROR FILMS
Exhumed Films and Cinedelphia.com present the world's first film festival dedicated entirely to made-for-television horror films, many of which have never been released on home video in any format. All films will be screened on 16mm at the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art (PhilaMOCA).
The Telefilm is an oft-neglected area of cinema that is vastly underappreciated despite the talented casts and crews associated with the genre, particularly during its heyday in the 1970s. It was a time before negative stigmas were attached to the "TV movie" and thus the format attracted a wide range of performers from esteemed stars of Hollywood's golden age to then-current stars looking for work between theatrical projects. The format also served as a proving ground for young directors and a source of steady work for the aged professionals who didn't fit in with the "new Hollywood". With high-end cable networks currently reclaiming the TV movie as a legitimate form of entertainment, let's take a rare look back at the format's classic run in the 1970s with a focus on horror films as a Halloween treat.
The festival runs for five days and is made up of six double-features with a bonus film on the final day:
WED OCTOBER 9, 8:00 PM: DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK (1973) + THE CAT CREATURE (1973)
THU OCTOBER 10, 8:00 PM: BAD RONALD (1974) + CRAWLSPACE (1972)
FRI OCTOBER 11, 8:00 PM: Philadelphia native Paul Wendkos Night featuring THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE BELL (1970) + TERROR ON THE BEACH (1973)
SAT OCTOBER 12, 4:00 PM: HORROR AT 37,000 FEET (1973) + SPECTRE (1977)
SAT OCTOBER 12, 8:00 PM: WHERE HAVE ALL THE PEOPLE GONE (1974) + LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO ROSEMARY'S BABY (1976)
SUN OCTOBER 13, 6:00 PM: DYING ROOM ONLY (1973) + MOUSEY (1974) + Wes Craven's STRANGER IN OUR HOUSE (1978)
