"Hardscrabble" by Steve Koppman An "emerging" teenager and her old-fashioned father try to improve their relationship spending quality time together playing a game of scrabble.

Hiding from police and on the run, Black, a tough and highly experienced criminal, meets his boss's female associate in a café for a gun, passport, and a bag of money.
"What Remains of Calvin Hayes Holmes" by Linda Saldana
Rita's sister has a husband, three kids, and a family plot already bought and paid for. Rita has nothing like that, except now she has Calvin because nobody else wanted him.
